Is Computerized Eye Testing Accurate?

Can Eye Testing Be Done Without a Computer?
Yes.
Clinics without an auto-refractometer use a device called a retinoscope, an essential tool for optometrists. A skilled practitioner can achieve excellent accuracy using retinoscopy, though it requires years of experience.
Does That Mean Auto-Refraction Is Not Reliable?
Not at all.
Auto-refraction is preferred because retinoscopy can be difficult and time-consuming, especially with young children. Auto-refractors provide quick, objective results, making the process easier and more efficient. In some special cases, manual retinoscopy may still be more suitable.
